Labor Day Water Baptism

Come celebrate changed lives with us at our church wide Water Baptism on Monday, September 6, 2010 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Glendale Community College pool!
Christian baptism, according to the Bible, is an outward testimony of what has occurred inwardly in a believer’s life. Christian baptism illustrates a believer’s identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. In Christian baptism, the action of being immersed in the water pictures being buried with Christ. The action of coming out of the water pictures Christ’s resurrection.
In Christian baptism, there should be two requirements before a person is baptized: (1) the person being baptized must have trusted in Jesus Christ as Savior, and (2) the person must understand what baptism signifies. If a person knows the Lord Jesus as Savior, understands that Christian baptism is a step of obedience in publicly proclaiming his faith in Christ, and desires to be baptized – then there is no reason to prevent the believer from being baptized. According to the Bible, Christian baptism is simply a step of obedience, a public proclamation of one’s faith in Christ alone for salvation. Christian baptism is important because it is a step of obedience – publicly declaring faith in Christ and commitment to Him, and identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. For information see the article What does the Bible teach about baptism.
To be baptized you will need to attend one of the 5 classes offered below. We offer these baptism classes so every person being baptized has a complete understanding of the significance and meaning of baptism.

God’s Story didn’t end 2,000 years ago, it continues today in the lives of all those who believe. The work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of individuals in the present time is a sign, a down-payment, as it were, of the eventual setting right of all things.
We want to hear your stories of how God’s story has interacted with your life.
If you have a story to share please write it as a comment to this article. Also, God story cards are also available in the information center.
We believe sharing these stories will encourage all of us that God is active in the life of His Church and His people!

Pastoral Prayer Team Signup

Welcome to the on-line signup for our annual church-wide signup for our pastor’s prayer teams! These teams have no meetings to attend. No one will call you. Team members receive email updates of prayer requests and pray from home as the Holy Spirit leads.

Our pastors understand that prayer is an important part of all that goes on in the Kingdom of God! For this reason you are invited to look over the different areas of ministry listed below and sign up to be part of the team that prays for the ministries you care the most about.

Your commitment to pray will be through August 2011. At that time you may allow your commitment to end, renew it for another year, or change your selected ministries.

In September you will begin receiving the prayer updates for your selected ministries.

Regardless of your calling or gift mix, the grace of prayer is fundamental to all that takes place in the Kingdom of God. I encourage you to ask God what part He might have for you in praying for the ministries which most interest you.

Earnestly,
Debra Wilson

THE TOPICS are relevant and challenging as we discuss the various issues that can keep a man from being all that God has created him to be. Each message is a straightforward study of a man from the Bible and how he overcame the excuses that tried to limit his life.

THE FORMAT is simple: Men come together in a friendly environment for a great mansized meal followed by a challenging teaching session led by one of the men from the Vineyard. Our evening closes with an opportunity for ministry time.

THE POWER of Momentum lies in bringing men together on common ground to learn together and listen to each other. Bonds of true friendships are formed as men encourage each other to more fully embrace a godly view of manhood.

THE RESULT is men connect in life-changing ways causing a powerful ripple effect touching families, workplaces, and the church. Deeper connections with God and other men inspire participants to connect more meaningfully in all facets of their lives. They climb beyond the walls of isolation and aspire to a biblical viewpoint marked by integrity, boldness, and compassion.

[ I Tim. 3:1 ]
We’re glad you are pursuing leadership here at the Vineyard because we know that our church will only be as strong as the leaders in it. Therefore, we take leadership development very seriously.

one

Take the Newcomers’ class and become a member of VCNP. We look at our membership as a sort of team roster, people who can be counted on to “do the stuff” in ministering to people.

two

Become a regular, consistent, attender at VCNP. This is very important because that is the only way you will know the direction the church is moving. We find that if everyone is pulling in the same direction, we make the most progress in doing what God would have us do as a churchbody.

three

Join a small group and become an integral part of it. Almost all of our leaders come from our small groups. This is where people use their spiritual gifts to minister to others. It is also where we get to see how consistent, faithful and gifted for ministry a person is. A commitment to Jesus also means a commitment to His people!

four

If you are not sure about what spiritual gifts you have, take the “Discovering My SHAPE for Ministry Class” to discover areas where God may have gifted you for ministry. We believe that God has a ministry for every single person at the Vineyard, and only when everyone is doing what God has gifted them to do will this church be all that it can be.

six

Take the “Ministry Training” class. This class is an overview of what the Bible teaches about how to pray for and minister to others.
Read Through the Bible in 2010

Statistics show that most people professing faith in Christ have never completely read their Bible. Many people start reading but then become overwhelmed by the number of chapters (1189) and verses (31,102) they will be reading. However, it can be accomplished by reading less than four chapters a day.
By dividing the Bible into 365 daily readings, a goal of reading the Bible in a year can easily be accomplished.
This year we are recommending that people who want to read through the Bible sign up at biblestudytools.net/BibleInAYear/ . This website will help you track your reading, supply numerous study helps so you’ll understand what you’re reading and even allows you to listen to the Bible rather than reading it. Make 2009 the year you read through the Bible!

New Bible Study Books Coauthored by Brian T. Anderson

Greetings,

I am sending you this e-mail to let you know about an exciting new venture I’ve been working on.

While there are many good Bible study books available, very few of them are written from the “Empowered Evangelical” perspective that we have in the Vineyard. To help fill that void I am co-authoring, along with Glynnis Whitwer, a Bible study series called, “Kingdom Living”.

Ampelon Publishing has just released the first two studies in this series: “Six Habits of Highly Effective Christians,” and “Worship: Nearing the Heart of God.” Two more studies will be available in the spring on knowing God and living in Biblical community (these titles haven’t been finalized). Each book contains six lessons, with approximately 15 questions each. Each lesson also includes a memory verse and room for personal journaling and prayer requests. There is also a leader’s guide at the back of each book with additional notes for those leading a Bible study.

It is my hope that small both groups and individuals will use these studies. They combine Bible study with the core values of the Vineyard. Because of that, they would be great to use in leadership development and general teachings on Vineyard values.

It is my sincere hope that through these studies you will be inspired and impacted by God. Please stop by the Bookstore and check them out!

Love,
Brian

Worship: Nearing the Heart of God

We talk about worship all the time in church and we practice it each weekend, but what is worship really all about? Why do we do it? What purpose and place does it have in our lives as followers of Jesus? In the first small group study in the Kingdom Living series, you will explore the answers to these questions and many more through looking at these topics: Settling the Issue of Lordship, Experiencing God in Worship, Gaining a God-Perspective, Developing Our Character, Overcoming Obstacles to Worship, and Worship through Advancing God's Kingdom.

Throughout these six sessions, you'll learn why worship plays such an integral role in God's Kingdom -- and you'll learn it together through studying God's Word and sharing your insights with each other.

Simply going to church and adhering to a list of "dos" and "don'ts" is a far cry from the life God intends for us to have as Christians. He wants us to change the world around us, which begins by understanding the power of a deep relationship with Him. In the second small group study in the Kingdom Living series, you will explore ways to deepen your relationship with God and become a more effective Christian, exploring the following disciplines: Knowing the Bible, Making Prayer a Priority, Living a Life of Obedience, Giving to God, Living in Community, and Serving Others. Throughout these six sessions, you'll learn secrets of effective Christians, how it has revolutionized their faith, and how it can revolutionize yours, too.
